Peter and Tracy Profile Shot

Hi! Nice to meet you. Peter and Tracy here. We met in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, while studying Spanish a few years ago and entered a mixed-culture marriage: Australian/American. The language barrier aside, things are working out pretty well as long as we don’t play Scrabble.

A crazy idea popped one afternoon while binge-watching House Hunters International. We wondered if we could travel for the same money we spent to live at home. I checked our household budget. It looked unlikely. We decided to try it anyway and thus was born our credo: Why stay home if you can roam?

So far we have been traveling for 5 years. Once, we left home and didn’t return for 15 months. In that time we’ve done house-sitting, cruising, AirBnB, staying with friends, Bed & Breakfasts, budget hotels, camping, clamping… Guess what! We are still traveling and living within our budget. Actually, we spent MORE just staying home.

You might be wondering WHY are we telling you all of this? The short answer is that we want to inspire you. We want you to feel the joy of finding a way to travel within your means too, but in your own style. Or, buy a taco truck. Or, open your own bait shop. Or, just sit on a beach somewhere and never move while watching the whales come to you. Whatever your thing is, we hope you will achieve whatever dream you are dreaming now.

Just have a good time. LIVE for God’s sake. Let’s face it…we aren’t getting any younger.

We value your time and are honored to have you here with us. Please, share any ideas you have. We’d love to hear them. Hope to see you around!

    Hello
As you might know by know I have been following your travel adventures. I have gathered useful information from you. I was wondering how one deals with medical insurance coverage while abroad on extended length of travel. Thanks in advance for any information.
    Sincerely,

Nelida, I apologize for taking so long to reply to your question about travel insurance. We met a man on a cruise after the transatlantic who had to be hospitalized for weeks in Copenhagen and then required an evacuation flight. It was terribly expensive and he wasn’t insured. Not good!

After researching what other travelers our age were doing to protect themselves, we bought a travel insurance policy from WorldNomads.com. The policy was reasonably priced and gives good coverage for medical expenses, medical evacuation, and forfeited money on prepaid tickets, as well as lost or stolen goods.

By all accounts they are reputable but are an untested entity. I made a claim for my visit to the ER in Sweden but they asked for so much substantiating claim paperwork that I didn’t want to bother for $200.

Hope that answers the question and let me know if you learn of anything better that we might use.
